You Won’t Believe How These Gigantic Structures Were Moved Across Continents

In a stunning display of engineering expertise, India’s Express Global Logistics (EXG) accomplished an extraordinary feat by transporting massive modules to Saudi Arabia for an ambitious green hydrogen project. Weighing up to 250 tonnes each, these modules played a vital role in the venture’s progression.

The operation required exceptional planning and resources. EXG managed the transport of 14 giant modules, each spanning 50 meters in length, 12 meters in width, and 18 meters in height, resulting in a combined weight of approximately 1,500 tonnes.

To handle this complex task, EXG utilized cutting-edge Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) from their Megaload division. This equipment, outfitted with 48 axle lines and two power pack units, included specially designed spacers to accommodate the enormous load.

Eight modules were methodically loaded onto ships using an advanced roll-on roll-off (RoRo) method, which involved the use of ramp plates and stools to facilitate a smooth transfer. The remaining six modules were carefully transported to the quay by SPMTs before being hoisted into position by crawler cranes.

Overcoming challenges was key to success. The entire operation demonstrated meticulous strategic planning by EXG, whose engineering team expertly navigated complex logistics. Adjusting the ship’s ballast was crucial in ensuring the stability of the journey across the seas.

In a strategic move, EXG expanded their capabilities by forming a partnership called Megaload with Italian specialist Fagioli in early 2023, aimed at enhancing their expertise in petrochemical and construction projects through advanced lifting technologies.
