The Astonishing Voyage: Secrets Behind Transporting Giant Modules for Green Energy
In a groundbreaking display of engineering mastery, Express Global Logistics (EXG) of India has successfully completed a monumental transport mission to Saudi Arabia, vital for a pioneering green hydrogen project. This endeavor involved maneuvering massive modules, each tipping the scale at 250 tonnes, which were crucial for the initiative’s realization.
The operation entailed the complex relocation of 14 vast modules, with dimensions reaching 50 meters in length, 12 meters in width, and standing 18 meters tall, aggregating a staggering 1,500 freight tonnes. For this Herculean task, EXG employed cutting-edge Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) from their advanced Megaload fleet. These transporters boasted 48 axle lines, complemented by two powerful pack units and custom-designed spacers, adeptly managing the immense load.
In an impressive display of technological efficiency, eight modules were smoothly loaded onto vessels through an intricate roll-on roll-off (RoRo) procedure, utilizing ramp plates and stools, ensuring their safe transition. The remaining six units were meticulously maneuvered to the jetty via SPMTs and strategically lifted into place by crawler cranes.
The journey faced numerous logistical hurdles, which were expertly negotiated due to EXG’s strategic planning and advanced machinery. A critical element, precise ballasting of the vessel, was emphasized as crucial for maintaining stability throughout the transport.
In pursuit of enhancing their capabilities, EXG initiated a joint venture with Italian giant Fagioli in January 2023 under the banner of Megaload, expanding their solutions in petrochemical and construction fields through innovative lifting technologies.
